Play your Cards Right

One really hard thing about being asexual, is getting too emotionally invested in somebody only for them to lose interest once they find out I’m asexual. So a little of bit background. I’ve identified as asexual for about 7-8 years now, but I’m heteroromantic.  No matter how things started off, they all ended the same: with me coming out as Ace.

So at this point your probably wondering How can I be asexual but have a romantic preference? Well, there are different types of attraction. being asexual just means you experience no sexual attraction. However, that does not mean that all your relationships are doomed to hell because nobody wants someone they will never be intimate with. But that’s not always true. Being asexual is just a lack of sexual attraction not preference. Its kind like saying for example, “I don’t like country music, but  Ill listen to Luke Bryant.” Country music being sex, Luke Bryant being male/female. Thats the difference between romance and sexuality.  Not only are there different levels of attraction, but there are also many levels of intimacy. Intimacy can range from friendships all the way up to sexual intimacy. Intimacy is so plastic it refers to a variety of different thing. Most people conflate the two. Just because I identify as Asexual, doesn’t mean I dont like passion and intimacy. Its really all just knowing your boundaries, honestly.

Lacking sexual attraction does not mean that Asexuals are completely against sex. Hell, some even enjoy, they just have no attraction for it. Much like aluminum. It is not a magnetized metal, so it doesn’t stick to magnets (Aluminum being Asexuals, magnets being sex). But nonetheless, men, especially, feel as if they’re entitled to that part of a woman regardless of her sexuality.  If you’re not a heterosexual female, they can some how change you into one like they have some magic abracabra type dick. Like homie chill out you’re not the great the powerful Oz and neither is your little buddy.

Life Of An Ace

I’d like to take a second and thank all of you for reading this blog. This blog is not an ordinary blog. SO thank you for reading and taking your time to learn and understand another stop in the sexuality spectrum.

Most people already know about LGBTQ community, but do you know about the A community. If you’ve ever met anybody like me, an asexual, you would think we’re weird and some kind of fucking unicorn. But we’re not. Were just the inhabitants of a very small town known as Asexuality.

Asexuality cannot be explained in one or two sentences. Or in this case… blog posts. Asexuality is something that is quite confusing to foreigners of our humble abodes. Asexuality is simply the absence of sexual attraction. “How is that possible?”, you may ask, “Humans are designed to be sexual beings whether you’re attracted to the same or opposite sex, you have needs and desires.”

Well believe me its possible. Humans may be sexual beings with desires and needs, but not everybody has the same needs. Not every ace person isn’t sexual. In fact some even enjoy it, confusing right. Now not really. Its like this.

You and your significant other are having a date night in. Your cuddled up bout to “Netflix and chill” with a little less chill. As you’re scrolling through Netflix trying to pick a movie, your S.O points out one of there favorites. But you’ve seen it and don’t really care for the movie for whatever reason. But do you still watch it them? If you answered no then you might wanna reevaluate all of your relationship and see who did majority of the compromising, but i digress. If you answered yes, then welcome to the world of ACE. Some Ace individuals will not watch the movie at all because any and everything sexual makes them very uncomfortable. Some Aces will watch the movie to a certain point because they know their limits. While the some Aces will watch the movie all the way through with you simply because they know you like the movie so much. Some Aces watch the enjoy the movie but that doesn’t make it their favorite. That movie for Aces is sex.

You may still be confused about how asexual, those lacking sexual attraction,  can still enjoy sex. well that answer too is simple. We have the same anatomy as any other male or female. We have the same erogenous zones. The only difference is the type of attraction. Some say that sexual attraction helps forge an even stronger bond but asexuals look for their bonds elsewhere, spirituality, financial status, intelligence, etc.

I don’t want to make this post to be too lengthy. But this is pretty much a breif overview of what Being Asexual means. I will try to post weekly posts about the subject matter. The next blog post will be a run off of this one. It will discuss the different types of attraction experienced by asexual. and past experiences in the dating pool. I hope you guys enjoyed. ❤ Ace of Heart.
